Love art; befriend science
Science is a playground of innovation to address suffering; its rewards, however, can attach to one’s sense of purpose to create a lifestyle and lifetime of unquenchable need for control, searching for that ultimate deterministic formula.
Science is a trusted friend and guide to societal evolution, but it cannot produce well-being out of nothing. If it is the middle, art is the beginning and the end.
Love language; ignore the word
Language is geometry; its beauty presents as the symmetries, rhymes, and reasons of relational structures.
The word is a vessel, an empty messenger - fundamentally separate from the substance of the matter. Truth, and language, is nonverbal.
Value attention (not just yours)
Imagine attention as a continuous spotlight whose lumen count trends downward in waves throughout the circadian day.
Attend to others like you do yourself.
Exercise and replenish working memory
Play games that require recent-memory retrieval.
Observe carefully your habits with alcohol, cannabis, or any other practice that “frags” working memory. Disrupting entrenched cognitive schemas is a foundation of growth, but poorly moderated habits are destabilizing.
